Do Christians who accept BB & Evo, think the raising of the Himalayas & Africa drying out was in Gods Big Plan?
Many, many, many freak events occured on planet Earth, which lead to the evolution of humans.

For example:

From a short history of almost everything, by Bill Bryson:

For most of it’s history until fairly recent time the general pattern for the Earth was to be hot, with no permanet ice anywhere. The current ice age – ice epoch, really started about 40 million years ago, and has ranged from murderously bad to not bad at all. We live in one of the few spell of the latter.

Ice ages tend to wipe out evidence of earlier ice ages, so the further back you go the more sketchy the picture grows, but it appears we have had at least 17 severe glacial episodes in the last 2.5 million years or so – the period that coincides with the rise of Homo erectus in Africa followed by modern humans.

To commonly cited culprits for the present epoch are the rise of the Himalayas and the formation of the Isthmus of Panama, the first disrupting air flows, the second ocean currents.
Himalayas: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Himalayas
Isthmus of Panama: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isthmus_of_ Panama

India once an island, has pushed 2000 kilometres into the Asian land mass over the last 45 million years, rasing not only the Himalayas, but also the vast Tibetan plateau behind it.

The hypothesis is that the higher landscape was not only cooler, but diverted winds in a way that made them flow north and towards North America, making it more susceptible to long-term chills.

Then, beginning about 5 million years ago, Panama rose from the sea, closing the gap between North & South America, disrupting the flows of warming currents between the Pacific and the Atlantic, and changing patterns of precipitation across at least half of the world.

One consequence was a drying out of Africa, which caused apes to climb down out of tree and go looking for a new way of living on the emerging savannas.

BB & Evo accepting Christians must believe that God intended these two things to happen when He created the Universe 13.7 billion years ago. Plus millions of other freak occurances that lead to our evolution, over 3.5 billion years.

I’m answering this because no one else is and because I usually love your well-informed questions/answers and the fact that you use sources constantly.

I’m one of those Christians who believe that the BB was caused by God. I believe that the evolutionary theory obviously has facts to support it because of my college biology class when we observed changes in bacteria under a microscope. But unlike the BB, evolution just doesn’t sound like God… specifically with humans. God basically says that he chooses the weak and poor because the rich and strong don’t want him or don’t feel they need him. But evolution leaves the weak behind. It be the best design for God to create life that can adapt to it’s surroundings since he also created an Earth that changes.

This is the first of I’ve heard of plate tectonics affecting evolution. But life also has adapted to this. For example, in South America there supposedly hasn’t been rain for 5 million years in the desert. Yet we have found that an advanced society lived in the desert and they somehow had access to water.

With the crust being flexible and having the crust float on magma, it does make sense. We need the Earth to breathe so that we can breathe. We also need a hot melted inner-earth in order to have a magnetic field. But mankind needs to be smart enough to stay away from the hot spots, faults, and plate boundaries. But even with our present knowledge of the matter, people still stay in these dangerous areas.

But I am no expert at creating planets and universes, so I have no clue how to build a good safe planet.

Well, they’re theists. Creationist or ‘Evo Christians’ they still just believe whatever the hell they want to believe. Then again, I’m confident that if you look honestly at yourself, you’ll find this same flaw in your belief set. Do you believe global warming is real ? Ok, but WHY ? See, we’re not really critical thinkers. We don’t really write down our beliefs, go on line, look for the pros and cons of whether or not what we think is right, double check each one, triple check, look for bias in the authors, examine evidence, check, double check and triple check for logical fallacies and so on. What we do is take impressions and sorta go ‘that’ll do’. See, whether or not you believe in This or That, if you don’t do an in depth Sherlock Holmes routine on your beliefs, you’re actually closed minded. Thing is, ‘closed minded’ is not necessarily a bad thing. Neither is ‘open minded’ necessarily a bad thing. They both CAN be bad things, depending on the circumstances.

wikipedia is a poor source, then again, most of the internet is that way.

1- who says the earth is even that old. there is just as much proof that the earth is 10,000 yrs old vers 10 billion, for every artical you have that proves the earth is 10 billion i have one that proves its 10,000.
for every one that says you can date this to million years ago i have saying the flaws in yiour dating system.

http://www.creationmoments.com/articles/ index.php?c=30
1. It is an established scientific fact that life cannot originate from non-living matter (the Law of Biogenesis).

2. The chemical evolution of life is impossible. No scientist has ever advanced a testable procedure by which this could occur. The Miller-Urey experiment, still shown in many current textbooks, has been proven to be irrelevant.

3. Mendel’s Laws of Genetics limit the variations in a species. Different combinations of genes are formed, but not different genes. Breeding experiments and common observations have also confirmed that genetic boundaries exist.

4. Acquired characteristics cannot be inherited. For example, the long necks of giraffes did not result from their ancestors stretching their necks to reach high leaves, nor does a man in a weight-lifting program pass his well-developed muscles on to his child. No mechanism exists whereby the altered behavior of an organism, in an attempt to adapt to its environment, will produce a genetic change in its offspring.

5. Genetic mutations have never made a creature more viable than its ancestors. Mutations are almost always harmful, and many are lethal. More than 90 years of fruit fly experiments, involving 3,000 successive generations, give absolutely no basis for believing that any natural or artificial process can cause an increase in complexity and viability.

"A mutation is a random change of a highly organized, reasonably smoothly functioning living body. A random change in the highly integrated system of chemical processes which constitute life is almost certain to impair it – just as the random interchange of connections in a television set is not likely to improve the picture." James F. Crow ( past Professor of Genetics, University of Wisconsin)

6. Natural selection (or "survival of the fittest") actually prevents evolutionary change, it does not encourage it. Since mutations almost always contribute to a decrease in viability (survivability), the mutated animal quickly becomes part of the food chain.

who is right?
how can you possible know what exactly happened more the 10,000 years ago?

it takes just as much faith to believe in evolution as it does in creationism. neither theory can be proven to the entire worlds satisfaction,

i believe in the Bible and ever thing that is in it, no one has ever disproved anything in the bible is wrong,
some people take the whole bible as fact others take it part of is as a parable and part as fact. this is just another pointless argument neither side will win

By the Law of Large Numbers, the detailed "freak occurrences" that led to us, in the present day, become a lot less freaky. When you set up a system (Life itself), with various forms of reproduction, various sources of mutations, and various kinds of geologic change on our planet, happening over many millions of years, practically anything that happens can be deemed reasonable, given that millions of other branches of the complex and ramified Tree of Life went in different "directions". In a nutshell, the L of LN means that although any individuals chance of winning a Lottery is infinitesimally small, the odds that SOMEONE WILL WIN become very likely indeed.

So there is no strange inconsistency for a Deist to believe in evolution.

Your questions are always educational and well-founded. I hope this answer is, for you, as well.

Ant Bully, The
Ant Bully, The (2006)

IMDB rating: 6.10

Plot: Lucas Nickle’s the new kid in town and the local bully, Steve, makes sure he knows it. Lucas gets so fed up with being bullied, he takes out his frustration on ants in his backyard in hilarious ways, like squirting them with his garden hose or stamping on the ant hill. The ants are understandably fed up with this and Zoc the ant wizard uses a potion to shrink him down to ant size! Lucas is sentenced to hard labor in the ruins and learns to be more compassionate to ants. He becomes an ant friend, then must become an ant hero when Stan Beals, the local pest control guy, who’s an even bigger bully, comes to wipe out the entire colony. An “ants vs pest control” battle ensues and Zoc reluctantly accepts that Lucas may be the ants’ only chance of survival.

Why do some Indians dislike white people?
So my friend and I were cutting across a picnic field in order to go home quicker. On my way to throw some garbage out, I saw a bunch of ants coming out of an anthill in the sand. For no real reason, I stopped and slid my foot over it, demolishing it. I stamped my feet on some ants on the way to the garbage as well. Yes, I step on bugs for fun. So sue me.

Some family of Indians who were RIGHT next to me on a blanket as I did this saw and the man sitting down told me to "stop where I was." I stopped, asked what. He said "I saw what you did." I just said "so who cares? they’re just ants." Then for no reason, he said to show respect when his son is present. Jokingly I said if he wanted to teach his kid respect, to have him crawl over and scrape the dead little ants off the bottom of my sneakers, and to enjoy the smell of my feet down there. The guy then said I was a "typical white bully." So of course I look at the ground, see another bustling anthill right below me, and smiling at the guy, trample it as I leave.

So my question is: Isn’t he sort of racist for bringing me being white into this? Do Indians just not like white guys? And how is that even bullying, when he started it?

I think that you are speaking about Indians from Asia. Actually Indians (Hindus) believe in many gods. Snake is one among them. Snakes also make anthills as their homes. That person who questioned you is worried about this. He scolded you because you destroyed that anthill.

I think you don’t know about this, so it is not your mistake. Even that person should have some common sense before blaming you.

What type of Indians are you talking about here? East or Native americans?

I don’t think that Indians hold white people in high regard, in actuality i think they resent them to be honest. I don’t think he was being racist but perhaps kinda ignorant i guess.
Demarques | Aug 15, 2009

Actually, you answered your own question.

Many Indians (and many whites for that matter) dislike the fact that some people think they have the right to treat others however they please.

It doesn’t matter if it’s another person, or an anthill, to thoughtlessly kill or harm, is still the behavior of a broken person.
Nighttree | Aug 15, 2009

Once again. Ignorance.
For you AND him.

First off. Does that one Indian man represent all Indians? HELL NO.
Second off. Are all Whites bullies? HELL NO.

So both of yall were in the wrong. Especially you for being so rude. You should have just walked away. Show respect as well as that man.

Desperado

Desperado
Desperado (1995)

IMDB rating: 7.00

Plot: With this sequel to his prize-winning independent previous film, “El Mariachi,” director Robert Rodriquez joins the ranks of Sam Peckinpah and John Woo as a master of slick, glamorized ultra-violence. We pick up the story as a continuation of “El Mariachi,” where an itinerant musician, looking for work, gets mistaken for a hitman and thereby entangled in a web of love, corruption, and death. This time, he is out to avenge the murder of his lover and the maiming of his fretting hand, which occurred at the end of the earlier movie. However, the plot is recapitulated, and again, a case of mistaken identity leads to a very high body count, involvement with a beautiful woman who works for the local drug lord, and finally, the inevitable face-to-face confrontation and bloody showdown.

Will Florida and Alabama still play for the SEC championship if Florida loses to Florida State tomorrow?

Yes they will.

Florida has already locked up their division of the SEC.

Florida State plays in the ACC, so that game will have no bearing on the SEC standings.
Dave C | Nov 27, 2009

yes they will since FSU is not in the SEC it would not be in in confrence loss
Charger15 | Nov 27, 2009

Yes, they have already clinched the SEC East, as a presumed Florida fan, how could you not know this?
Juan Pablo | Nov 27, 2009

Yes, Florida State is in the ACC so it is not a conference game and anyway Florida reserved their trip to the SEC Title a few weeks ago. Remember that Florida has yet to give up more then 20 points in a game so FSU’s defense better come prepared to play.

And Tala’s forthright challenges to Leyla’s beliefs begins a journey of self-awareness for Leyla. Back in London, Leyla is heartbroken but learns to break free of her own self-doubt and her mother’s expectations, ditching Ali and being honest with her parents about her sexuality. i dont straighten my hair or anything just the ends but even then after a while during my day it curls back again and i wish that curl at the end would stay straight without me having to straighten it every morning. is there anything you all might recommend me using or doing? my hair is of course much longer now after thinking itll get heavy and just fall but its still the same way.
i dont like using mousse or gel and im not big with all these hair products so can you all help me out please?! thanks for your time guys.
@lbert

my sister had the same problem :/
if your hair isn’t naturally straight there isn’t much you can do to keep it from going curly at the ends. i actually had the same problem when i straightened my hair. all i can really recommend is using some of those products you don’t like to protect your hair from the heat that you put on it when straighten it. after a while it may become more manageable the healthier it is.

What can I do about my dog's allergic reaction to Amoxicillin? Lyme treatment alternative?

November 26th, 2009  Tagged

Hi everyone!

A while back, my 96 lb dog, Charlotte, was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. My vet put her on Doxicycline. She had a violent allergic reaction to it. We decided to wait until she started exhibiting signs of the disease. Recently, she started acting run-down and we went back to the vet. Our vet put her on Amoxicillin. I’ve been cautiously giving her a Half-dosage (500 mg). Charlotte has been itching and panting and doesn’t have fleas, etc. I just checked her over and saw small red spots in the areas where I could see her skin.

Neither of us have slept for a few days due to her discomfort. Can I give her Benadryl to ease her symptoms and does anyone know what can be done for her Lyme? She’s so sweet-this is awful. Please help us!

Here are Petcentric photos of her (and me-LOL!!):

Thanks! :) & ^..^

Nice dog… owner’s cute too !

Lyme is bad stuff, please go back to the Vet. Also, don’t "self-medicate" , especially with something as powerful as Amoxicillin. IS that an allergic reaction or a reaction to Lyme disease ? Call the Vet and ask for advice.

Antibiotic allergies are common enough in dogs (and people), that the Vet should be able to prescribe something to help.

If allergiesd are still the prioblem, the next thing to try is tetracycline, but she might be allergic to that also… however, it is worth a try

BTW, make sure that the allergic reactions are recorded in Charlotte’s charts … and that you make a note of it. If she get a UTI as she gets older (which is not uncommon after 10 years, you’ll want to make sure that she gets the antibiotics that work… and not the ones that she’s allergic too.)

http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/lyme.htm l
Doxycycline, tetracycline and amoxicillin continue to be effective choices as an antibiotic but treatment must continue for a few weeks after all signs of the disease are absent from the dog.

hanksimon | Jul 09, 2007

it is a mild allergic reaction. you can give her benedryl but call your vet for teh correct dosage. or you can ask your vet to give her a shot of benedryl. and ask your vet about alternatives to amoxicillin.
Neka | Jul 09, 2007

PLEASE DO NOT give her any more meds. It could kill her. Talk to your vet and let them know about her reaction. They will determine what the next step is going to be. There is nothing you can do about your dog being allergic to medication. You’ll just have to find one that she’s not allergic to.

Paranoid Facebook question?

November 26th, 2009  Tagged

So I had once searched for an old college friend on Facebook, but couldn’t find her. Then one day I saw her picture, and realized she was friends with one of my Facebook friends. She had married, so her name changed, which is why I couldn’t find her. Her profile was private but I clicked on it, to see her profile picture and browse her friend list out of curiosity. (we knew each other pretty well so this is not too weird)

I was pondering whether or not to friend request her – I sometimes agonize over initiating contact with old friends – so I thought for a few days. I decided to do it. However, she is suddenly not listed anywhere – doesn’t come up in a search, is not on my friend’s friend list where I saw her. I knew one of her other friends too, though we are not Facebook friends; I looked at that other friend’s list and she’s not listed there either.

Anyway, I’m paranoid that there is some way for people to know who has searched their name or viewed their friend list on Facebook, and that she somehow knew I had found her profile and then "blacklisted" me from even knowing she exists there. We were friends and had a vague kind of falling out, which I am over but would love to make ammends and just say Hi. But it seems possible she wouldn’t want to hear from me.

I admit, paranoid, but it’s weird that someone with over 100 friends would just disappear from Facebook. Is that she only explanation – that this person just quit Facebook?
Important note: I did not actually send a friend request. Just when I decided I was going to, she disappeared.

she blocked you.
this means no matter what she does, YOU can’t ever see her… unless that is, you ask your friend whos friends with her if she has facebook..then you’ll really know if she blocked you or just closed her account.

yes maybe she decided to get a life outside of facebook

stawrm | Nov 16, 2009

She ignored the friend request, and either 1. blocked you. Which to you, would make it look like she doesn’t exist, 2. Set her search settings to "Only Friends", so only friends can find her in searches, or 3. like you said, she quit facebook.
You Betcha! | Nov 16, 2009

There is no way to currently see who has viewed your profile that isn’t your friend, i can assure you of that.

Yeah, I think you’re just being paranoid. She either left facebook or changed her name to something random, people do that sometimes. If you’re really that concerned ask one of your friends, too many people on facebook love to gossip anyway. Drop it in casually, ‘hey, you spoken to X? I haven’t seen her in years!"

What do you think of my least favourite names?

Justin: Wow, you’re cool.
Robyn542- No, they’re not. I haven’t even met people with some of the names. I just dislike the sound.

Kaylee — One of my best friends is named Kaylee. Despite that, I think the name is too trendy for my own use. Ever.

Kiley — I especially don’t like this spelling, but I don’t like the name regardless.

Mackenzie — A friend of mine recently had a baby (a couple of months ago) and named her Mackenzie. Again, I don’t like the name. Trendy.

Brooklyn — My aunt lives in Brooklyn. I love the place. Not as a name.

Brooke — I actually probably slightly prefer Brooklyn, just because I love the place.

Bailey — My last name is Bailey… haha, I don’t mind it. It’s kind of popular, but I like it possibly as a middle name, since it is my last name.

Zoey — This name annoys me just because of Zoey 101.

Francesca — I actually like this name! haha, lovely. So Italian/foreign and attractive… I mean, so many great nickname options like Chessa / Chessie…

Tyler — I don’t really like it either. It’s always sounded a bit harsh to me.

Cayden — Trendyyyyy. But I at least like this slightly better than Aidan.

Drew — A bit too nickname-y for me.

Caleb — Caleb as always just been an "eh" name for me. I don’t like or dislike it.

This was really interesting, hearing names that you dislike. For the most part, I agree with you. :)
